I earned my B.S in Early Childhood Education from Salem State College and my
Masters Degree in Reading from the University of New England. I have been
teaching for 22 years. I have been at Cole school for the past 20 years
teaching Kindergarten and First grade.
My mission as an educator is to provide a welcoming learning environment,
where every child feels safe to take risks. To differentiate instruction to
insure that each child can reach their full potential as first grade students.
At the same time remember it is still their ‘childhood’ and they need to have
fun and enjoy learning.
This mission statement will guide me to remember that every child has the
ability to learn and it is my job to achieve this through differentiating
instruction. This places the focus on meeting their needs as individual
learners. Even before this learning process can begin, they need to feel
welcomed and safe so they can take risks with me and trust me. For when we
feel safe and happy, we are comfortable and open to learning new ideas and
concepts. There are so many expectations put upon our students today; I feel
we have lost sight of the fact that they are only six or seven years old.
Children need to play and have fun while learning. For when learning stops
being fun, that’s when the problem truly begins.
