Summer Reading Fun!

Dear Parents and Guardians,

This year, we have an enjoyable way to encourage summer reading - “Read it!  Roll it!  Review it!”  Here’s how it works:

·        Read it!

Students choose a book they’d like to read or listen to (audio books are available at the public library).  Before selecting their book, they should check to make sure a movie version is available.  Books on the back of this notice all have print, audio and movie versions but any book/movie combination is acceptable.

·        Roll it!

Students watch the movie version of the book.  They should be encouraged to think about how it is the same or different from the book.

·        Review it!

Students then talk about the book and movie with you or a friend.  Which did they like better?  Why?  Which would they recommend?  Why?   Would they like to read another book by the same author?  Why?

·        Win it!

For every book/movie review that they write, students will have one “ticket” to enter in the drawing for a great prize pack for one lucky winner - a $20 Borders Gift Card and $20 Independence Mall Cinemas Gift Card.  (The form to enter is on the back of this notice and will also be available on line on the library web page.)  All reviews must be received by Friday, September 11, 2009.

The more students read, the better their chances for winning are!  Most importantly, the better they will do next year!

Happy Summer Reading,
