* Final Scholastic book orders due by June 3. Great opportunities for summer reading!

* Just a reminder that our field trip to the Franklin Park Zoo is this Friday, June 1.
For the children:
* We will be leaving right after the morning announcements so please make sure your child is at school on time. We will be back for our usual dismissal time.
* Each child needs to bring a bag lunch and disposable drink container, no lunch boxes or reusable water bottles. A small snack for when we get off the bus would be good, too (granola bar, juice box, etc.)
* Please have your child wear comfortable sneakers, not sandals.
* Sunscreen should be applied before the children get to school. If you want to send a small bottle for the chaperone to carry in their bag, they can reapply at the zoo.
* Do not send in money, we will not be going to the gift shop or buying any food.
* We have safari hats for the children to wear.
For the chaperones:
* Please be at school by 8:30 so you don't miss out on the excitement of riding the big, yellow, school bus! I will give you your group then.
* Bring a backpack/bag to carry your group's lunches (don't forget your own). Kleenex and hand wipes are good to have as well.
* Bring your cell phone.
* Please DO NOT go to the gift shop or buy food for your group (per the district health and wellness policy).
Even if you aren't an official chaperone, you're welcome to drive and meet us at the zoo at around 10:00. You can either come to school and follow the bus or just meet us there. You will then be able to join your child's group.

* Mark your calendars:
- First grade field trip to the Franklin Park Zoo on June 1.
- 1B's Authors' Day will be Thursday, June 7 from 12:30-1:30 in the FSS library.
- The K-3 field day has been scheduled for June 11 with a raindate of June 14.
- The last day of school is June 19. It will be a half day with no lunch served.

* As the nicer weather arrives, please remember that the children go out to recess every day and flip flops aren't the best option for running around on the wood chips and wooden structure on the playground. Sturdy sandals or sneakers are safer choices.

* Also, our classroom gets VERY warm in the warmer weather. Feel free to send in  water bottles that the kids can leave on their desks and refill as needed.

* We could use glue sticks110lb white cardstock (8 1/2 x 11), buttons, beads, pom poms, and pipe cleaners.

* I will put each week's spelling list on the 'Uploaded Documents' page.  There are also some pages to help your child review the words or challenge themselves by using the onset letters to create more words using the different patterns.

* It would be helpful to review the weekly spelling quiz with your child and help them make adjustments to their nightly practice, if necessary. Approximately every 3-5 weeks we will have a review week and a cumulative quiz.  Please include 'old' rules and patterns in your nightly spelling practice.

* As the children practice their math facts at night, you might find the color coded number grids on the 'Uploaded Documents' page useful.  They're color coded so the kids can easily see how to transition from row to row.

* Please make sure your child wears sneakers and a short sleeved t-shirt on A and E days.
