Mystery Reader
What is a Mystery Reader?: A mystery reader is someone who comes into the classroom to read a book (or books) to the class. They are a "mystery" because the children do not know who is coming-it is a surprise! Please help to keep this a surprise and don't tell you're child that you are coming. It's very hard for 6 and 7 year olds to keep this a mystery, and they usually end up revealing the surprise to their classmates if they know.
Who can be a Mystery Reader?: Anyone! Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, older siblings, and other special people in your child's life are all welcome to sign up to be a mystery reader.
When does the Mystery Reader come to class?: Every Friday from 1:30-2:00
How can I sign up to be the Mystery Reader?: Contact Mrs. Pierce via e-mail, phone, or by sending a note into school. There will also be a sign-up sheet at Back To School Night.
We are in need of Mystery Readers for the following dates in 2012:
We are booked!! I will let you know if any dates become available!
Things all Mystery Readers should know to prepare for their visit: The mystery reader should plan to arrive at 1:30. The class will be eagerly anticipating your arrival! You should bring a book (or two) of your choice. Some people have read short chapter books or several books that are all connected in some way (same author, same genre). Thirty minutes is a long time, so you should plan a lengthy book and read slowly, stopping often to ask questions or engage them in the read aloud (all things that I'm sure you do on a normal basis reading with your child). In the past, some mystery readers have planned activities or crafts to go along with their stories, but it is not necessary to do so. If you choose to, you should plan for your reading
and
the time it will take for the craft or activity to fit that 30 minute block.
Please do not bring in snacks
.
Please contact me if you would like to sign up as a Mystery Reader or have questions about being a Mystery Reader. We look forward to you visiting Room 9 as a Mystery Reader soon!!!
