Comprehension Helper

Here is a list of Reading Comprehension Strategies that you can use 
when you read at home or school. You can print this out to use while 
your reading and you can check to see which ones you use on your own.

I read the bold print on the tops of pages.
I look for titles and sub-titles.
I look for smaller words in a bigger word when I don't know a word.
I use words around a word I don't know (context clues) to understand a word I don't know.
I ask myself about the 5 W's, Who, What, Where, When, Why, and How.
I make predictions about what will happen next.
I check to see if I was right or wrong
I look for setting, characters.
I look for the conflict or problem of the story.
I ask myself if ithe conflict is man against man, or man against nature.
I take notes or use an organizer when I read.
I ask myself questions about what I am reading
I use the 5 finger rule when choosing a book
