Hello,

CONGRATULATIONS -  We have officially completed 3rd grade MCAS!!!

We will continue working on Topic 8: Division Facts. Knowing the multiplication facts is very important as we move on to division. Please keep up the fact practice. The multiplication triangles sent home last month can be used for the fact portion of the homework. If your student is working on a fact activity other than Skills Tutor please make sure you sign their homework log and note the time spent on the activity. Up next is fractions!

We will also finish up our Reading Street story Supermarket. Next up is I Wanna Iguana!

Thank you,
Ms. McGee

** I have updated the Donations Needed page if anyone is interested in making a small class donation.

Thank you!!

Some notes:
Below is a reminder of a process we are followsng when answearing comprehension questions in class:

1.  Read all of the questions.

2.  Read the passage.
3.  Read and answer the questions.
*Be sure to number and underline the part of the passage that helped you answer each question.

4. Do your answers make sense?

Please go to Successnet on the Miller School homepage to see activities connected to our math and reading topics!  Also, students are entering their answers for the Topic 6 math assessment onto Successnet and they will have assigned activities in a "To Do" folder on Successnet that will help clarify and reteach areas they are unsure aboutYour children can show you what we're doing!

Below is a link to a very useful website that provides lessons and games in all math areas.  The link below brings you right to the place value activities because that is our focus in math.
AAA Math Place Value Activities

CHECK OUT THIS WEBSITE: Students can practice a variety of skills in language arts and math by their grade level! or this fun Compound word activity.

This week we continue to explore the following questions:
1.  How do readers show that they comprehend what they're reading?

2. What strategies to mathematicians use to add and subract 2 digit  numbers?

3. How can transition words help readers retell the most important events in a story?  Students will practice retelling the most important events in a story, both orally and in writing, by using transition words like first, then, next, after and finally.  They will complete a graphic organizer that requires them retell at least 5 story events in the correct sequence using transition words.  It is important for readers to retell a story because it helps grown ups check their comprehension (and helps them check their own comprehension, too).  It also helps them structure their ideas in writing.

4.  How do readers use their background knowledge to help them understand what they're reading?

Skills Tutor is a meaningful way for students to practice their math facts...please encourage students to go online for at least 15 minutes every week.

Your participation and support at home has such an impact on your child's education!

Thanks!  Have a great day!

Always remember to reach for the stars!
