READING: Students should be reading at home for 15 minutes each night and recording their book titles and minutes on their RAH sheets. At the end of the month you should total their minutes of reading for the month and sign the RAH sheet. Your child should have brought home a new RAH sheet for November.  It is due December 1.

General Plan for Homework

Every child in grade 2 is expected to read for a minimum of 15 minutes every night. In our class each child will bring home a RAH (Reading At Home) log at the beginning of each month. This sheet should be returned, signed by you, on first school day of the following month. This is considered homework.

A Spelling Packet will be sent home on Mondays. It has several actitivies which should be completed during the week and returned Friday, before the dictation.

More information about Spelling expectations will be presented at Back to School Night.

If your child does not know addition and subtraction facts through 10 with accuracy and speed, they should practice them. We will begin the year learning addition and subtraction strategies which will help us master the facts through 20. Children who already know their facts will explore concepts of addition and subtraction to gain a deeper understanding of of these important and fundamental building blocks of math.

If your child feels overwhelmed by the enormity of this job, set small, achievable goals.

I cannot stress enough how important it is that every child know their basic facts and can recall them quickly and accurately.

  • EVERY NIGHT - all students should should practice their facts until they know them automatically.
