How will my child use the library?

Most children come to the library for a scheduled visit each week or every
other week. Some
classes prefer to send down small groups of children throughout the week.
All children should be checking out books on a regular basis.

How many books can my child take out?

Preschool and kindergarten children take out one book at a time. In order
to get a new book, the first book must be returned. Children in grades 1-5
may have two books out under their name. Miler Students in French Immersion
sometimes have 3 books checked out to them, one of them being in French.

What should I do if I realize that my child has forgotten their book?

Please don't feel obligated to bring the book to the office if you realize
that your child has forgotten their book. If it is convenient for you to
return it, you can drop it off in the office and your child will be sent
down to pick it up. Otherwise, your child's teacher will probably find some
time in the next several days to have your child make a book exchange.

When are books due back to school?

Books are generally due two weeks from the date that they are checked out.
Books are never due during vacation weeks, so sometimes books may not be due
for three weeks. Look at the stamp inside the front cover of the book to
see the due date. A book can be renewed if the child brings the book up to
the desk and asks to have it renewed. Placentino students often want to get
new books every week, so I would recommend sending them in every week on their
library day.
Library time is much more fun when you can choose a new
book!

Are there fines for late books?

We don't collect any fines for late books in the Placentino Library. If
your child has lost a book, I will send home information to help you order a
replacement copy or pay for the book, if you prefer. We know that sometimes
books get damaged or lost and
children should not feel anxious or afraid if their book needs to be
replaced.

Do the children get a library card?

We do not use cards. The children tell us their last name and we check out
the book using our automated library system.

What will happen if my child doesn't return his/her book for several weeks?

You will receive an overdue notice in your child's folder. Please look for
the book and return it as soon as possible. If you think there has been a
mistake, please don't hesitate to call the library. We have many volunteers
helping us run the library and mistakes are inevitable.
