We have a busy month with Groundhog Day, 100th Day and Valentine’s Day. Most of the class predicted that the groundhog would see his shadow. It has been mild winter although we are hoping for a little snow so we can set up our “snow table” in our water table. Thank you for your quick responses to our Valentine’s Day party. You should have received a class list on Friday so your child can begin their valentines.

 

Reading Street: The question of the week was, How are things we use today different from things long ago? We read Then and Now by Tracy Sato. 

 

New Word Wall/High Frequency Words: of, they, you

Letter of the week: Oo (vowels are two weeks)

Amazing Words: headphones, phonograph, webcam, handwritten, gears, newspapers

 

enVision Math: Topic 5 - numbers 6-10

We also will be doing a number of 100th Day activities. We went to Mrs. Parker’s class and learned a counting by 5’s song/dance. 

 

We will be setting up our 100th Day Museum on Monday afternoon. If your child has not brought in their project there is still time! 

 

FYI: We will be starting a new Specialist schedule which will result in some changes to our support times and instructional times. We will now have art 2 times a week and creative movement 1 time a week. Thursday our specialist time has been moved from 9:10 to 10:05 and on Friday our specialist time has been moved from 10:05 to 2:10. Finish up/Fun Friday free choice center time will be moved to Monday and most of our reading support times will be in the afternoon.

It was so nice to see everyone and talk about your child’s progress. The home-school partnership is so important and I appreciate your feedback and willingness to provide carryover at home.

 

Last week we read 2 different versions of The Mitten and did several activities around it.

We are on Topic 5 – Numbers 6-10. The children can read the Topic 5 book Fun in the Sun that was sent home. It has many of the Reading Street high frequency words in it.

 

Letter of the week: 1/30-2/6 Oo (vowels are 2 weeks), 2/13 Hh, 2/27 Ll

 

100th Day will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 7th. You should have received an e-mail from our room parents regarding this. We are asking that projects be sent in by this Friday, February 3rd and can be most anything they like as long as they can carry it themselves. We will be setting up a “100th Day Museum” in the hallway for everyone to visit.

 

We will be celebrating Valentine’s Day, Tuesday February 14th. I will be sending home a class list, there are 21 students and 2 teachers. We will have a celebration and our room parents will send out an e-mail next week. I wish to thank you all for your generous support of these special events.
