Title One Policies

Policies and Procedures

The following information is for parents of children enrolled in the Title I Literacy Program.

The Title I Literacy Program is meant to support and enrich the literacy instruction given in the classroom by your child's classroom teacher. Grade level teachers and Title I reading specialists strive to create a learning environment that encourages children to be independent, proactive readers. Above all, we work together to foster a life-long love of learning. Your child's teacher and the Title I reading specialist communicate on an on- going basis regarding the progress of each student and depend on feedback from each other in order to better understand your child as a learner.

Your child's growth and development in literacy is monitored through on- going, careful observation and assessment by his/her classroom teacher. With those observations and on-going assessments in mind, extra support in literacy is provided to those students who may benefit from small group, intensive instruction.

Overview for Grade 2

Group Meeting and Size: Students enrolled in Title I, Grade 2 meet four to five days per week for 30 minutes. Usually, each group consists of four children or less.

Curriculum and Instruction: The Title I teacher uses the "My Sidewalks"  reading intervention program as well as appropriately leveled texts  for instruction. Students in first grade are introduced to reading strategies that help them monitor their reading and thinking. Students in second grade are beginning to talk about and actively use the strategies as part of their regular reading behavior. (See Strategies link for more information)
