Good Emergent Reading Strategies 1. Self-Monitor: Know when something doesn't make sense or look right.
2. Search for Information: Access Meaning, Structure and Visual information to problem-solve.
3. Self-Correct: Make corrections on-the-run while reading.
4. Reread for clarity.
5. Locate the known parts (chunks) of an unknown word to aid in problem-solving.
6. Read each word carefully looking at the beginning, middle, and ending.
7. Think about the story.
8. Look at the picture.
