Library Policy

                     Holliston High School Library 
                  Services and Policies for Students
		        

HOURS

Monday - Thursday - 7:25 am - 2:45 pm
Friday - 7:25 am - 2:03 pm



ACCESS

Students who wish to use the library during the school day may visit with 
their classes or have a library pass signed by a faculty member or an 
administrator. During ELB students need a pass signed by the librarian.

ATMOSPHERE

Students are encouraged to take advantage of the library program by using the 
educational resources available to all members of the Holliston High School 
community.  If, in the course of visiting the library students have any 
questions about the location and/or availability of materials, they are asked 
to seek assistance from the librarian. While in the library students are 
expected to respect the quiet, learning atmosphere of the facility by 
displaying appropriate behavior. This policy is in place for the benefit of 
all students, staff, parents, friends, and visitors. 


CIRCULATION

Books -

. Stacks

Books located in the general stacks (fiction, non-fiction and biography)may 
be borrowed for two weeks.  They may be renewed for an additional two weeks 
provided no one else has requested the same book. 


. REFERENCE & RESERVE

All reference and reserve books including encyclopedias may be borrowed 
overnight. These books may be checked out at the end of the school day and 
must be returned before the First Block the next school day.

  .  Journals

All current issues of journals remain in the library and do not circulate. 
Back issues of journals are loaned on an overnight basis. Back issues may be 
checked out of the library during the school day or after school and must be 
returned before the First Block on the next school day.  Back issues of 
journal articles may be electronically accessed through the use of the high 
school computer network. Additional information is available in the library. 


Electronic/On-Line Resources

All library workstations are internet accessible. Students are welcome to 
avail themselves of the educational and library resource web sites on the 
internet including the Holliston Public Library site and the Minuteman 
Library Network. Both of those institutions also provide very good, reliable 
internet links.

Holliston High School Library is a member of the Massachusetts Metrowest 
Regional Library System. Membership in the MMRLS provides the Holliston High 
School community access to electronic resources such Infotrac, Newsbank and 
World Book Encyclopedia On-line. The library also subscribes to the following 
on-line programs: Scribner's Writers Series and Twaynes Authors. Information 
about these resources is available in the library 

It is expected that students accessing the internet in the library will 
adhere to the regulations of the Holliston Public Schools Acceptable Use 
Policy.


Overdue Material

Students are expected to return all materials on time. Overdue notices are 
periodically distributed to Block A teachers, who, in turn, distribute the 
notices to students. Students are expected to pay for lost and/or damaged 
materials they borrow. 


Food & Beverages

There is to be no consumption of food or beverages in the library at any 
time.
