How much is lunch?
Lunch is $2.75 per day. Milk may also be purchased
by those who bring their lunch for $.50.
Should I send money for lunch each day?
Sending money with your child on the days they will buy lunch is an option.
However, parents are encouraged to pre-pay by sending in a check for the
desired amount made payable to Houghton Cafeteria. This money is deposited
into your child's lunch account. You may also pay online by connecting to the Nutikids website using the link on the district website. On the days your child buys lunch, the
appropriate amount will be deducted. This will continue until your child
begins to run out of money. At that time it will be necessary to replenish
the account by sending in a new check. Some parents choose to pay weekly,
others monthly, and others just send in a set amount to be used at will.
The choice is yours.
How can I reach Mrs. Simons?
The quickest and best method of correspondence is through the school email
system. You may use the link on the home page of this website which is
linked to my email address: renee_simons@wrsd.net. I do check my email daily
before and after school.
Sending a note in with your child is also a good way to correspond with me.
Please remind your child to give the note to me upon arrival at school or
consider pinning it to his/her shirt. I'll be sure to get it that way.
Calling the school directly is an option as well, however they rarely will
interupt the class during the school day. You will more than likely have to
leave a message that I may not get until after the school day is over. If
it is urgent, let the office know so they can be sure I receive any such
messages quickly.
What if my child's transportation home is changing?
If your child's transportation home is to be changed in any way, the school
MUST be notified. This can be done by emailing the teacher, calling the
office, or sending a note in with your child. This is true for daily
changes as well as any permanent changes. Such changes may be someone
different picking them up, going home with a friend, taking the bus instead
of being a pickup, or being a pickup instead of riding the bus. Please note
that children are not allowed to ride home on a bus other than their own.
What do I do if my child is going to be out sick?
If your child is out sick you should call the school sick line and leave a
message so the nurse knows. It is also helpful if you let me know by
email. The nurse messages are not passed along to classroom teachers.
What if my child will miss school due to a trip or vacation?
If you child will be missing school, it is helpful to know in advance by
note or email. The informaion will be passed on to the office for
attendance purposes. It is possible to put some of the work that will be
missed together for you, if desired. If not, it is expected that the work
will be made up shortly after returning. Please note that in school lessons
are not made up so your child will miss important learning time.
What do I do if my child is having problems on the bus?
The school's assistant principle, Mrs. O'Donnell, is the person to contact
if your child is having trouble on the bus. You may notify me as well, but
she would be the person to handle the problem. She typically contacts the
classroom teachers if one of their children are having bus issues.
Can the children celebrate their birthday?
Absolutely!! However, birthday snacks of any kind are not
allowed. We will celebrate by giving your child a birthday crown if they
choose and they also receive a birthday bookmark and pencil as well as a
card. If your child's birthday is on the weekend, we will celebrate the
Friday before or the Monday after. If your child has a summer birthday, we
will have a big birthday celebration the last week of school.
