Our school day begins when the bell rings at 8:30. Children are welcome to arrive on the playground (or in the gym during inclement weather) after 8:15. Please label with your child's initials -Appropriate outdoor gear as we go outside almost everyday What shouldn't my child bring to school? -Toys (except for Sharing days) -Weapons -Items of great value -Soda, candy, junk food or gum -Shoes that don't stay on his/her feet What are the best ways to communicate with the teacher? -Send a note in your child's home folder -Send an email to Lisa_Cannon@wellesley.k12.ma.us and Renee_Lilley@wellesley.k12.ma.us -Leave a message in the office, especially for changes to dismissal plans 781.446.6275 -Leave a message on teacher voice mail system 781.446.6275 ext. 415 Are there bathrooms in the classroom? The bathrooms are not far from the classroom. There is a system in place which lets the teacher know someone is out of the classroom and allows students to go to the bathroom when necessary. Hunnewell has a no food policy for birthdays. On a child's birthday, the class shares their good wishes, sings a 'Happy Birthday' song and the birthday student receives a gift of compliments. All students are dismissed at 12:00. Teachers are required to use the afternoons in faculty meeting, conducting conferences, attending system wide grade level meetings or preparing the classroom materials. Students are dismissed through the brown door marked 'A11'. Please park appropriately and walk to the semi-circle driveway. Please wait for your child on the driveway to avoid crowding the pathways for students in other classes exiting the building. Also, please be sure to make eye contact with your child's teacher. If it happens that you are not waiting outside the door when your child is being dismissed, not to worry, your child will be waiting for you on the office bench. When collecting your child from the office, be sure to let Mrs. O'Brien know of your arrival. Students going home on buses or to afterschool events will be met by an adult waiting for them at the office bench as well. What if I need to change my child's dismissal plans? If you need to change your child's dismissal plan for any given day, you must email or write a note. If there is a last minute change, please contact Barbara O'Brien 781.447.6275 so your child will have dismissal information before the end of the school day. What should my child bring for snack? A beverage and a small, healthy snack are best. Our snack time is short. Crackers and cheese, fruit, or half of a sandwich are good choices. Yogurt and pudding are also fine choices but you must remember to pack appropriate utensils. If students are hungry at the end of the day, a time will be provided to finish leftovers. Your child has several options for lunch. S/he can bring lunch and a beverage from home; bring a lunch from home and purchase a beverage; or purchase a hot or cold lunch (beverage included) from school. A school menu comes home each month to help your family make these decisions. There is no need to send your child to school with lunch money as school lunches work on a prepaid debit system. You will be billed for purchases your child makes. Please be sure your child knows what s/he is ordering for lunch. Lunches are ordered by 9:00 a.m. At 12:00, students go out to the playground with first and second graders for recess. After recess, students get whatever they need for lunch before sitting at a table in the gym or on the grass outside. There is always adult supervision should your child need assistance with the lunch routine. When can I come into the classroom? There are several volunteer opportunities for 1CL. The volunteer sign-up sheets are hanging in the outside cubby area. If you are unable to come into the building to sign up, send an email and we will reply with the available dates for the month you request. You will be notified of special classroom events through the classroom newsletter. Also, Family Open House Night will be held in February, your whole family can come to visit! How will I get information about my child's progress There are two parent conferences scheduled: one in October/November and another in March/ April. In addition, there are two written progress reports: one in January/February and one in June. How will I get information about what is happening during the day? Check the website and be sure to read the newsletter. |
