Mrs. Jacques grew up in Massachusetts where she attended Lowell State
University to become a music teacher. As a child her mother had to tell her
to stop practicing her piano so she could go outside and play! While she was
at Lowell she became active in the chorus and orchestra while continuing her
piano studies. Mrs. Jacques taught music in New Hampshire, South Carolina and
Texas before moving back to Massachusetts and joining the Hastings faculty in
2007. She loves to garden, play piano and sew - but mostly loves to teach
music to her students. She believes that children love music because it helps
them to make connections –to their friends, their school, their studies, and
their world. Mrs. Jacques lives in Haverhill, Massachusetts with her
wonderful husband, Roland, and their little dog, Daisy.
I am so happy to be teaching music classes at Hastings School! This is my
fifth year at Hastings and it just keeps getting better. When children come
to their music classes at Hastings I wish to give them musical knowledge and
enjoyable activities that will sustain their creative interests throughout
their lives. I believe that music is a universal language used by all
children to perceive and explore their world. Music helps children relate in
a positive way to their environment. Toddlers coo, youngsters make up songs
and older children sing to celebrate and share experiences with one another.
Developing this inherent intelligence in our children provides them a
creative, safe and productive way to connect with society, and I am privileged
to be a part.
