Homework

In accordance with the Lincoln School Handbook, first grade will have 10-15 minutes of homework each night. Homework is meant to be a review/practice of skills introduced in the classroom.  If your child is not able to complete the homework within 15 minutes or if it proves to be too difficult, please just send me a note so that I know why the homework is incomplete.  In addition to the written homework, each student is required to read for 15 minutes.  If your child is a non reader, reading aloud to your child is encouraged.

The weekly homework consists of

1. Spelling tic tac toe: Three of the activities should be completed and the tic tac toe board returned to school with the completed activities crossed off every Friday.

2. Math game: To be played at home. Please keep games in a safe spot so that you can go back to them during vacations and long weekends.

3. Reading: As stated above, all first graders should be reading (or being read to) for 15 minutes each night.  The reading log should be filled out and returned every Friday.

4. Word Wall Words (high frequency words):  Should be reviewed every night in addition to the spelling tic tac toe.
