January, 2009
As we enter the New Year, our class will be completing and beginning several new and exciting units.
Students began a very engaging unit, Lego Engineering before the holiday break. . Each child has
worked with a partner to learn the names of the Lego pieces, and practice designing and building an
indestructible Lego wall. The highlight of the unit will be when student partners design, build and run
their own motorized Lego cars.
Our class will also be examining the topic of States of Matter over the course of the next several weeks.
Students will be conducting experiments with ice, including predicting the melting rate of ice, changing
variables to make ice melt faster and variables to slow the melting rate of ice. Students will predict the
outcomes, record their observations and draw conclusions based on their findings.
