--------------------------------------
What time does school start and end?
School begins at 7:40 am and ends at 2:07 pm.
--------------------------------------
When is homeroom?
There is typically no homeroom. At 7:40 am, you report to your first class.
--------------------------------------
What are block days?
Block days occur on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Instead of having 6 classes
that last 50 minutues, with a 21 minute lunch period, and a 21 minutue
reading period, on block days you have 4 classes lasting 88 minutes, a 24
minute lunch, and a 24 minute reading period.
--------------------------------------
What happens if you are late to school or to a class?
If you are less than 10 minutes late to a class, you are given a tardy.
After the 3rd unexcused tardy per term, you will be given a detention.
If you are more than 10 minutes late to class, you are given an unexcused
absence. If you have 7 unexcused absences in a class, you will receive
an 'F' for the term in that class.
If you arrive to class after 8:00 am, you will need a note. If you are not
able to provide a note within 24 hours, you will be given 3 detentions.
**Seniors who exceed 4 unexcused absences during the fourth quarter will
receive an 'F' for the term.**
Please see your Student/Parent Handbook for a listing of what constitutes an
excused versus an unexcused absence or tardy. (MHS Handbook, page 14)

Do colleges look at grades from every class in high school?
Yes. Colleges look at your transcript from 9th grade through 12th grade.
--------------------------------------
How or when do I see my guidance counselor?
The guidance counselors will come into your classes at least once every year
to talk about varying topics. Additionally, you will work with your
guidance counselor around course selection time. Students can also make
individual appointments to meet with their guidance counselor about
academic, social, or emotional issues. Every counselor has a sign up sheet
outside of their office displaying the times they are available before or
after school or during your reading period. It's also important to remember
that if something urgent comes up and you need or want to speak with your
guidance counselor, you may ask your teacher if you may come down to the
guidance office.

I'm having trouble in a course. What can I do?
If you are struggling in a course, the first thing you should do is seek
extra help with your teacher. Extra help is available after school hours,
but must be arranged with the teacher in advance.
If there are ongoing difficulties in a course, the Guidance Office maintains
an extensive list of both peer tutors and private tutors who are willing to
provide extra help. Stop by the Guidance Office to pick up a copy of the
contact list.
Most student activities do not begin until 2:50 pm, thereby providing
students the opportunity to meet with teachers for extra help.
