November News

November 9, 2009

Dear Parents,

October was certainly a busy month for our preschoolers!  During Fire Prevention Week, the children enjoyed dressing up as firefighters, riding in our pop-up fire truck, and practicing the important role of firefighters while learning about the important work of a firefighter.

The preschoolers will be learning about community helpers throughout the year and we welcome any parents, grandparents, family members or friends who would like to come to our class to share their experiences with the children.  We have had doctors, nurses, vets, pharmacists, firefighters, hairdressers, police officers, carpenters, dentists and dental hygienists, to name a few.  Please let me know if you are interested.

Hope all the preschoolers enjoyed their fall field trips to our neighborhood farms.  The morning classes visited Tangerini’s Farm in Millis, while the afternoon classes ventured out to Ward’s Berry Farm in Sharon.  All the children went home with a pumpkin, just in time for Halloween.  Besides having lots of fun, we hope that each visit to the farm was also a great learning and social experience for the youngsters.

We had lots of excitement at our Halloween parties/parades.  We appreciate all your help-from purchasing goodies and special treats to assisting with our parades, games and crafts. The children enjoyed their special dress-up day, thanks to you.  Special thanks to our Halloween Party Parent Volunteers.  There will be two more classroom parties this year, one in the winter, and one in the spring, so I hope to give each family a turn to participate as a volunteer for one party during the year, if you wish.

Library-All the preschoolers have a chance to take out a library book every other week.  Please remember to return your child’s library book within a two week period so he/she can take a new book home during library time.  There is a special container in the hallway above the coat racks for your returned books.  The children will also have an opportunity to use the computers during their library time, so please review the computer rules with your child and return those forms as soon as you can.  Thanks!

Dismissal- For your child’s safety, please come to the gate of the playground for outside dismissal.  If the weather is too cold or inclement, we will be dismissing from the preschool classroom. Please be prompt in picking up your child at the end of the session.  The morning class ends at 11:30 a.m.  There is only a short amount of time in between sessions for the staff to clean up, consult, set up and eat lunch before the next class.  Parents are reminded to pick up afternoon preschoolers by 3:00 p.m.  The staff greatly appreciates your promptness during arrival and dismissal times.

Reminders: Show and Tell on November 12 and 13. School will not be in session on Wednesday, November 11 for Veteran’s Day or Monday, November 30 for a Teacher Professional Day.  Thanksgiving recess begins on Wednesday, November 25.

Wish List:  For those sniffles and spills…Tissues/ Paper Towels/Clorox Wipes.

Also, quart and gallon zip lock bags would be appreciated.  Thank you!

FYI: Check out what’s happening in our classrooms. The web site for the Medfield Public Schools is www. medfield.net. Then go to Memorial School and grade.

Our preschool team wishes all of you a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with your family and friends.
