Classroom News

Activities we work on daily at morning meeting are:

CALENDAR - month, days of the week, concept of yesterday, today
and tomorrow,counting by ones, numerals before and after, patterns
WEATHER - daily weather and reading a weather graph using the following
describing words; most,least,equal,first,second,etc.
# COUNT OF DAYS IN SCHOOL - keeping a count, using a ones, tens, 100s pocket 
chart - making an addition sentence as we add a new ones stick 
ABC - uppercase and lowercase recognition, letter sounds and sight words


Language Arts Activities
* sight words introduced: a, am, at, can, Dad, I, in, is, it, me, Mom, my, the
* reading the mini "Dog" book together
* small reading groups; looking for title, pointing to words as we read
 looking at pictures for clues and Title page, taking a picture walk,
  words that begin with, words that end with,reading together and separately,
* listening for and identifying the beginning, middle and ending sounds of 
words
* practicing blending and segmenting sounds in words
* handwriting D and d
* review R and r in our handwriting book
* classbook "D is for..." thought of a "d" word and illustrated, 
* "My Dd Words" for our notebooks
* illustrated "Dog" poem for our notebooks
* author and illustrator of a book "If I had a dinosaur..."
* pocket chart game - "1 card out" for beginning sounds
* Letter Before and After dice roll
* used letters from the word "dinosaur" to form and sound out simple 
  CVC( consonant, vowel, consonant words)
* missing letter stamps...fill in the beginning, middle or end sound
* sound sort - where do you hear the targeted letter?...beginning or end?
* reread "Lily's Purple Plastic Purse" - created a lightbulb lab in our 
  classroom - a place where we can go to write and illustrate and keep our 
  papers in our own folders   

Math Activities

* measuring objects with cubes
* measuring lengths with sticks
* Grab and Count 2 Handfuls
* #'s board put the numerals 1-20 in order
* Collect 10 game with a partner
* Number Before and After dice roll
* counting jar
* fill in the "D objects" with cuisenaire rods
* Build It and Build On games with a partner
* Numeral Dice Toss

* used a recipe to measure and count cups needed to make fossil dough and 
  make our own fossils
