Dear Parents,

I am writing to you to inform you of some dates to mark on your calendars.

FIELD TRIP

As you know, on Tuesday, May 15^th our class will be going on a field trip to Stony Brook in Norfolk. We will be leaving soon after the children arrive and will be back soon after lunch is normally served. Please have your child bring lunch to school that day and dress appropriately for the weather, thank you.

FLAG DAY

On Tuesday, June 12^th at 9:30 a.m. Memorial School will be having its annual Flag Day Show that all first grade students will be participating in. I would like to invite parents back to our classroom after the show for a presentation of our class Big 6 Project on American Symbols.

FIELD DAY

First Grade Field Day will be held on Thursday, June 14^th in the morning. Often times the weather is hot so Mr. Grace and Mrs. Graham will be building in some water fun so the kids can cool off. Plenty of drinking water will be available at the water station. Please send your child in with an extra set of dry clothes, a towel and a plastic bag for wet clothes so they can change after the field day events (please have everything labeled). Children should wear sneakers or good running shoes for the events. Please remember to apply sunscreen at home.

COOKOUT AND POOL PARTY

To celebrate our year together in first grade, I will be hosting a class cookout and pool party at my house on Thursday, June 14^th from 4:30-6:30 (rain date Friday, June 15^th). Parents are also invited. More information will be coming.

TRANSITION DAY

On the morning of June 18^th, your child will have an opportunity to meet their new teacher and classmates as part of our Transition Day events. All first grade students will be bussed over to the Wheelock school to meet their second grade teachers as part of our Transition Day. Placement letters with your child’s second grade teacher assignment will be sent home with your child in advance of Transition Day.

Transition Day is normal arrival and dismissal day for all current first grade students.
