Happy Valentine's Day! Hopefully this message finds you well rested and ready to get back to our daily schedule. I am now looking for empty altoid containers if you have any that you are not using. One person's recycling is a teacher's treasure!English/Language Arts- During Week 19 we will be focusing on e, ee, and ea words, as well as the contractions 've and 're. For Fluency we will be working on phrasing and for comprehension we will continue to work on recognizing story structure.Spelling - You may notice that there are now two spelling lists. The second list (sometimes referred to as List B) is created with the goal to challenge students who already exhibit a firm knowledge in the words pretested on Monday mornings. Students are free to move from List A or List B based on the week, and neither list means that they are not doing well in spelling. The List A words are the expected first grade spelling words, while List B is a challenge. Please let me know if you have any questions regarding list list. The end goal of two spelling lists is to meet each child where they are at academically. Please check out my Spelling City website: http://www.spellingcity.com/SFogaren/EveryDay Mathematics - Our class is now concluding Unit 5 of our program. As it is a spiral series, some of the topics we will be focusing on include base ten blocks and basic math facts. Please refer to the Everyday Math Home Link sent home at the beginning of the Unit (Unit 5 is a salmon pink color) for a more thorough explanation of things to come, as well as homework assistance and helpful hints.
Science- We have just started our Matter unit. The focus of this unit is to classify items as solids, liquids and gases. Open Circle - I have posted the Lesson 15-16 Open Circle Home Link. These home links are used to keep families informed about the lessons their children are learning and the language they may be using. Please take the time to read these links online in order to promote Room 12 "going green".I would also like to take this opportunity to remind you to please not send in cashews or pistachios with your child's snack or lunch due to allergies within our classroom. This will help us maintain a safe atmosphere for all of the students.
