Happy Valentine's Day!!
Important reminders for the week of 2/6-2/10:
* Message for Parents:
1. Second term grades have been posted on Aspen. Anyone having difficulty accessing their Aspen account should email me with a description of the problem, and I will attempt to find a resolution.
2. For more information about school events, see the Melrose High School website. (Click on Melrose High School at the bottom of the list to the left of this page for a link to take you there.)
* Message for ALL students:
One goal of Melrose High School in general and of the Social Studies Department in particular is to promote good citizenship in our students.
Good citizenship encompasses many things, including thinking before you speak or act, taking responsibility for your actions, standing up for what you believe, working to correct or improve injustices in your community, and understanding and embracing your role as an individual both in a democratic nation and the larger global society.
Charitable Activities
Melrose High School students and the larger Melrose community are involved in a number of charitable activities or other activities designed to spread joy and good will. Activities within the high school itself include:
- LifeSavers for Life Savers - Girl Scout Troop 71238 (made up of high school students) will be collecting LifeSavers, Skittles, M&Ms and other hard candy to send to our troops overseas. Candy can be left in the collection boxes in the Main Office or in Room 138.
Contests
There are currently a number of contests going on that encourage good citizenship, some by asking you to consider the role and/or importance of freedom, the military, and our national heritage (including the historical events and documents that shaped this nation), and others by asking you to take a stand to help educate others about important topics (underage drinking, brain disorders). Many of these contests are listed on the contests and scholarships page of this website.
Any student who chooses to participate in any of the contests listed below and shares a copy of your submission with me will receive extra credit toward the homework component of your grade.
Eligible contests:
- Stossel in the Classroom Essay Contest - deadline Feb. 6
- The Courageous Persuaders Commercial Competition - deadline Feb. 9
