After graduating from the University of New Hampshire with a BA in History
and Political Science, I found myself working in an office for a commercial
real estate association. I quickly figured out that was not the job for
me. I needed to be in a fast paced environment where I was challenged and
not given time to get bored. Eventually, I came to the conclusion that the
job I wanted was to be a middle school teacher. Teaching seemed to have all
the qualities I wanted in a job, plus it sounded fun. So, I returned to
school and earned a Master’s in Education with a certification in middle
school social studies from Lesley College.
My decision to become a teacher was one of the best decisions I have ever
made. I was right, teaching does have all the qualities I was looking for
in a career and I have had a lot of fun. Every school year is a new
adventure. This will be my fourteenth year with the Wachusett Regional
School District. I began my teaching career at Central Tree Middle School
and then transferred to Mountview Middle School. I have taught 6th, 7th,
and 8th grade. To be honest, all of those grades have been fun, but 8th
grade is my favorite.
On a personal note, I live in Worcester with my husband Mark, son Matthew,
daughter Katelyn, and dog Zoe. While I am teaching, Mark works as a
structural engineer in Boston, Matthew attends Abby Kelley Foster Charter
School, Katelyn attends daycare in Shrewsbury, and Zoe sleeps at home.
My goal is for students to leave my class with an understanding and
appreciation of the world around them. I want students to love to read and
to love to learn about the world around them. Also, I hope all students
develop skills that will help them in the rest of their school and in life.
