Our final Independent Reading book can be any genre you enjoy.
YOUR CHOICE!! Choose a book that interests you. The book you choose to
read should be one that you ENJOY!! Do the math, and plan to finish it by
Monday, June 9th. Your final project, due June 13th, will be one of your
choice...see the art and writing projects descriptions if you have not
already chosen one. This can be a very brief project due to the demands of
the persuasive essay. Please use time in class to complete this by Friday.
Remember: Read what you LIKE!
Final Extra Credit Opportunity: Make a map that includes many of the setting
details found in Amelia's War. This is due on Friday, June 6th.
June 4 and 5: Study for the Amelia's War test on Friday. Know the
conflicts, the characters, important dates and places, and the factual notes
from the Author's Note. Review your journal and all notes/charts.
June 6 and 9: Complete the graphic organizer for the persuasive essay by
Tuesday. You should be working with a partner who opposes your argument. Use
web links for additional organization; use websites, newspaper articles and
other evidence to support your arguments. Have fun with this!
****Due to the unusually hot weather, I have told students that instead of
writing a five paragraph persuasive essay, they can use notecards to prepare
a persuasive speech instead. Notecards may be written in bullet format, and
they must contain all necessary logical arguments and supporting facts and
reasons. This is due on Friday in class.
June 10, 11 and 12: Write your essay draft/peer editing in class. Final
essay is now due on Friday, June 13th.
Debate before the judge and jury on Monday and Tuesday June 16 and 17.
Art supplies are needed for making our porfolios!
