When I graduated from Providence College with a degree in English and course
work focused on writing, I headed into the world of journalism - working for
several weekly newspapers and monthly magazines. However, as I spent hours
travelling to cover stories, I became frustrated that the moajority of the
stories I was reporting focused on the negative as opposed to uplifting or
positive topics. The more hours I worked, the more I found that the places I
enjoyed visiting were the local schools- covering stories about student
achievement, exciting projects, and interesting events. So, after a year of
very long work hours and little reward, I felt I needed a change, which led
me to the local middle school.
Fortunately, this decision was an answer to what I was looking for, and I
recognized my love for writing within the school setting by writing a play
with my students to perform at the Massachusetts Middle School Drama Guild
Festival. In addition, I enjoy working with the middle school age group and
focusing on reading and writing with my students. I have spent the last
three years working at the middle school level and I am looking forward to a
new challenge and new faces this upcoming year at Mountview!
My mission would be to foster an appreciation and understanding for
literature within my students, as well as hosting an exciting and
interesting environment for students to improve their own reading and
writing skills. My hope is for students to recognize their own talents and
learn from others.
