Expectations

Respect is top priority!I expect each student to treat others with respect.
We all should respect each other and ourselves. It is important to value our
school, classroom and materials, as well as each other, and to appreciate the
similarities and differences between us.

**COURSE EXPECTATIONS**

This memo should provide an overview of the guidelines and expectations in
math class. The students are off to a great start and I look forward to
working with them this year. Respect and fairness are essential to a
successful learning environment. I have discussed these topics with the
students as well as their increased responsibility now that they are seventh
graders.

Class Participation: Active involvement in class is expected. Coming to class
prepared with all the necessary materials, following along, note taking,
making necessary corrections and contributing in class are all part of
participation.

Homework: Homework is an important part of learning and developing math
skills. It is to be done neatly IN PENCIL only. In class corrections will be
made in pen. Homework is usually assigned daily. Homework not completed (or
presented at the start of class) will receive a zero that day. Students will
have the opportunity to make up late homework for up to 80% credit. If the
homework was due prior to progress reports, students have until the Friday
before progress reports to pass in missed homework. If the assignment was due
after progress reports, students have until the Friday before the quarter
closes to pass in any missed homework.

Absences: It is the student’s responsibility to make up any missed work.
Students should check my website for postings. He or she will be given as
many days as they were absent to make up missed work. After that time the
late homework policy applies.

Quizzes & Tests: Quizzes will usually be announced one day in advance. Tests
will be announced at least 2 days in advance.

Extra Help: I am available after school Mondays and Wednesdays. If a student
would like help either during activity period or before school they must see
me, in advance, to make arrangements and to get a pass.

Extra-Credit: There are extra-credit opportunities available. Students are
provided with a “packet” for each quarter. 50% of each packet is possible
extra-credit. Students need to see me outside of class time to discuss any
other arrangements.

Grades: Homework 30% (completion 20%, accuracy 10%)
	    Quizzes 20%
	    Tests 40%
	    Participation 10%

*Homework pink slips before progress reports can be made up until the Friday
