Announcements -- Week of April 7th, 2008
Math:
-Our class average high for multiplication facts is 29 in one minute. This is
up from 9 at the beginning of the year! Keep shooting for 50, we're past
halfway there and almost at 30!!!
-We recently finished a week of study on measuring angles. We are in the
middle of a two-week unit on fractions. This will be the last math topic of
the quarter. The exam on this unit is planned for Thursday, April 10th.
Language Arts:
-Thank you to all the parents (and grandparents!) who came to watch the
students present their jackdaw book reports. There were some very creative
artifacts and containers! A special thanks to parents who sent in snacks for
the afternoon and to those who helped set up the jackdaws at the fool's fest!
It was great to see so many of you there! Also, congratulations to Billy Dowd
for winning our solar system basket!
-Students are currently making picture books based on these books they read
in book clubs: Fantastic Mr. Fox, Justin and the Best Biscuits in the
World and The Whipping Boy. When these are finished we will be reading them
to first graders!
-Our current reader's workshop unit is on poetry. The first week of this unit
was spent writing limericks and practicing reading poems for MCAS. For the
next two weeks we will be learning about text features of poetry and
memorizing poems for a recitation. We will also be reading the book Love That
Dog by Sharon Creech.
Science:
-We are now switching again for science. We are going to Mrs. Segur's room
for a unit on physical science.
