What is OT in school?


Occupational therapy is a related service focused on helping students reach their fullest potential in the school environment. The "occupation" of students is to learn, complete school work, use school tools, interact with others, and play. Occupational therapists help students gain appropriate skills and adapt the environment to enable them to succeed.


What happens in OT?

Occupational Therapists engage students in activities to improve classroom performance. These include appropriate games, crafts, puzzles, worksheets, groups, manipulating small objects, and sensory activities. Therapists also focus on following directions, sequencing, and movement.

Where does OT take place?

Occupational therapy takes place everywhere. OT's work as part of a team including parents, teachers, physical therapists, speech therapists, aides, and other related staff. OT can take place in the classroom with a whole group, with a small group, through consultation, pull out as a group or individually, pull out as a group or individually to address goals.


What is the goal of OT?


The main goal of OT is to work together to help adapt the environment and giving students the necessary skills they need to be successful in all areas.
