January 2012: Welcome to a new month and a new year! We continue to be busy
learning and exploring our 2nd grade curriculum.
These are our focus areas for the month:
Reading: Making Connections. How does making connections help us understand
what we read.
Writer's Workshop: The Craft of Revision
Math: Subtraction, Geometry-pentagon, hexagon, and octagon. Fractional parts
of Time, and circle graphs. Continue to work on single digit math facts, both
addition and subtraction, through + /- 12. We are currently on (Week One +6,
Week Two +7, Week Three +8, Week Four +9) Making and practicing with flash
cards, making an oral game of practicing math facts while driving in the car,
making dinner, etc. can be fun and helpful in learning our new facts.
Social Studies: Maps and Immigration. We will be working on our Rutland Books
with Mrs. Leith.
