Here is a brief summary of some of the learning that happens in third grade: your child will be learning how to read for purpose and comprehension, how to write paragraphs, how to compose letters, narratives and stories. Much more emphasis is placed on grammar and writing mechanics.
Math will include adding and subtracting large numbers, multiplication and division, fractions, measurement, and much more. The Math MCAS consists of word problems. Our math series contains many word problems with each lesson.
Projects and Book Reports will be assigned in English Language Arts, Science and Social Studies.
A NOTE ABOUT THE CURRICULUM:
Our curriculum is based upon the Billerica Curriculum Benchmarks and Massachusetts Curriculum
Standards.
We participate in the Open Circle Curriculum, a social/emotional skills training curriculum that facilitates acquisition of the necessary skills for children to work together as a community of learners, fostering friendship and cooperation.
