Brookline Language Arts Learning Expectations
 
   II. Emergent Literacy
      C. Students will develop knowledge of  
      sound/symbol relationships.  They will
      be able to:
  • recognize some high frequency words from books and their environment...

These lists are for environmental print exposure.  Children are NOT expected to know how to spell them all by the end of kindergarten.

There are three ways children use the word walls in KW:
 
1. Looking at words on the wall under the letter of the alpahbet
 
 
2. Words on a poster chart with an image next to them
 

3. Word pockets with cards that children take out
