Meet Mrs. West
On this page you can read a little bit about me...
I have been an educator since 1999, with an Undergraduate degree from Wheelock College where I studied teaching and the fine arts. I went on to receive a Master's degree from Lesley University with a degree in teaching with a concentration in literacy. I started out teaching toddlers (2 year olds) then moved up to teaching older preschoolers (4 year olds) then moved on to where I am today, teaching kindergarten (5 and 6 year olds).
I've been teaching at Pierce School since 2007 and love it here! I mentor new teachers in our school. I also work on a team that helps classroom teachers brainstorm strategies to try with students who need extra support. I am also on a literacy team that is bringing a new literacy assessment approach to the school at large. It all keeps me very busy and I wouldn't have it any other way!
Tid-bits about me:
1. I am left handed. I'm very proud to be a south paw!
2. I am married to Mr. West, who teaches 4th grade in Newton. It's pretty cool to be married to another teacher because we get to take vacations together and travel during the summer!
3. In addition to being a teacher, I also own my own holistic healing business where I help people feel better by using a healing energy called Reiki. I also teach people how to work with energy on their own.
4. I love to read. I read every night before going to sleep. I'm also a speed reader so I usually read 1,000+ page books so I can remember the content. Once, I read Leo Tolstoy's
War & Peace
, just for fun!
5. I love to be healthy- I run, cross country ski, walk, and hike.
6. I love to eat grapefruit, roasted brussel sprouts and dark chocolate!
7. I grew up on Cape Cod and now am lucky to go "home" to visit my grandparents who still live there.
8. I have been practicing hatha yoga for 10 years with the same yoga instructor. I also practice meditation.
9. I love nature, birds especially. I have a big bird feeder in my back yard and love to watch who comes to the feeder- just not the pesky squirrels!
10. I love to travel. I have been across the USA two times. I have also been to Spain, Scotland, Wales, England, British Columbia, Yukon, Alaska, France, and New Brunswick, with more travels to come! Someday I hope to backpack through India, Tibet, and Bhutan.
