This link will provide daily and long-term homework assignments for Math, Social Studies, Balanced Literacy Workshop, and Science. Think of this as your online Agenda Book! Please refer to the information below your assignments for further information about the Homework Policy.
Homework for WEDNESDAY, February 8, 2012
- Practice math facts using iXL. You should FOCUS ON MASTERING MULTIPLICATION. YOU MUST PRACTICE FOR AT LEAST 10 MINUTES EACH WEEKNIGHT AS PART OF YOUR REQUIRED HOMEWORK! YOUR PROGRESS WILL BE CHECKED!
- PLEASE review your math facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) regularly. The more complex our math becomes, the more difficult it is without knowing your facts!
SOCIAL STUDIES
- Continue studying your map for the MAP QUIZ that will be administered on MONDAY, February 13th. Use the map of the Northeast Region that we labeled in class together to help you find and identify the 11 states and capitals on the map (some of them are already familiar).
SPELLING
- Study all your words and homonyms and the idiom for the test on FRIDAY.
SCIENCE
Begin studying for your Simple Machines TEST on TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 14th using the Review Guide that you were given in class. You have all the materials you need to help you study and an outline that is chunked to do a little bit each night!
READING
FINISH working on your TWO required book report projects for the setting of a chosen book. Both projects will be due on WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 15th. You will also have some time in class over the next few weeks to work on your projects. Please let Mrs. Lantz know if you need any materials for your projects!
THERE IS NO LOG THIS WEEK.Read an independent book of your choice for 30 MINUTES EACH NIGHT. Record your reading on your Weekly Reading Log. Remember to have your parents sign the log on Thursday night before it is DUE ON MONDAY. You will be graded on your recording and reading as well as your ONE THOUGHTFUL ENTRY about the reading you did for the week. Your THOUGHTFUL ENTRY should be a full explanation of a prediction, a question, a connection, or an inference that you had while reading the book. You MUST tell WHY you think or feel this way and defend your answer with DETAILS from the reading.
Homework is to be done completely and neatly, as assigned. According to the Topsfield School Committee, fourth grade students should expect to have assignments totaling 40 minutes each night for homework. Daily reading for 30 minutes total, in addition to assigned homework, is also encouraged. Projects and long-term assignments may be incorporated as part of regular homework assignments and may require additional time. The amounts set forth by the Committee are recommendations. Children work at different rates and can concentrate for varied amounts of time. It is to be expected that assignments will take some children longer than others to complete.
1. Incomplete class assignments will be assigned to be completed at home.
2. Homework assignments may include make-up work due to illness.
3. Reinforcement or enrichment work may be given to meet the individual needs of the child.
4. Special projects or reports will be assigned during the school year to enhance research skills and develop individual responsibility.
5. Reading for pleasure may be a frequent assignment at any grade and should be assumed when other work is not given.
Please contact me with any further questions or concerns regarding your child and the Homework Policy. Although homework is an integral part of your child's educational experience, your child should NOT be spending in excess of an hour each night on the homework. If this is the case, please let me know as soon as possible so that we may consider other alternatives.
