About Me...

I have been teaching in the Revere Public School System for 10 years and have
loved every minute of it! I recently completed a Master's Degree in
English and Education. I am also currently studying to obtain my CAGS
degree.
I am also a part time dance instructor and love theatre. I am looking
forward to working on a new drama production in the 2009-2010 school year.
If you have any questions or concerns about my class, please feel free to
contact me via email any time and I will get back to you as soon as
possible.
Thanks for visiting my site! I hope that you will visit again soon!

Grading Policy

LANGUAGE ARTS GRADING POLICY

TESTS/ PAPERS/ PROJECTS- 30%

•After each novel/ unit there will be a test. The tests will cover the main
themes of the novel or unit. Often times, there will be essay questions on
the tests.
•I will assign a variety of essays each term. Most of our writing
assignments will be expository or literature-based; however, any writing
assignment more than one page in length will be considered an essay.
•In order to better understand the major plot, concepts and themes of the
novels we will be reading in eighth grade, students will participate in
various projects throughout the year. Some projects will be completed with a
partner or in small groups and some may be done individually. Specific
guidelines and rubrics will be given for each project.

QUIZZES- 30%
•After each chapter/concept there will be a short quiz. These quizzes will
usually not consist of more than ten questions. The quizzes serve to check
the students’ understanding of each lesson and will be given frequently.

CLASSWORK- 15%
•Any worksheets or tasks given in class are considered classwork. Part of
the students’ classwork grade is coming to class prepared and I will
periodically check that all students have the materials with them. (Please
refer to the “Class Requirements” document for a list of the proper
materials.)

HOMEWORK- 15%
•Homework is very important and will be assigned EVERY NIGHT, even if the
assignment is to study for a test or quiz. I also expect students to review
their notes from class each day and come to me with any questions they may
have at the beginning of the next class. If a student needs any extra help
or clarification on a homework assignment, they may come after school for
extra help. Also, if students miss homework assignments they may be required
to stay after school to complete them for half credit.

CLASS PARTICIPATION- 10%
•There will be a lot of oral work in class. Students are expected to
participate in class discussions, answer questions and read aloud in class.
Showing me that they are engaged and trying their best in class is a good
way to boost a student’s grade.

*MAKE-UP WORK-	When a student is absent, they are expected to make up all
of the work that they have missed. All work should be made up promptly when
the student returns to school. Any work not completed in one week’s time
will become a zero. Tests/ quizzes should be made up on my next department
night. I expect that all students will come to me when they have missed an
assignment. Students should not count on another classmate to tell them what
they have missed.
