February 6, 2012Hi everyone,Please be aware that we will be hosting our annual course selection evening for the parents of students in grades eight through eleven on Thursday, February 9, 2012 in the auditorium and in the cafeteria. As in years past, we will be hearing from administrators, curriculum leaders, and teachers to discuss the courses that are available for the 2012 -2013-school year. There will be times to ask individual questions and refreshments will be served! At the presentation you will also hear about an exciting new change to the process. This year we are incorporating iPass into our course selection process. So, whether it is your first time through the process or you are a veteran of the high school this year will be a little different. As you begin the process, please review our current Rockport High School 2012 – 2013 Course Catalog. It is available on our website at www.rockport.k12.ma.us under the publications tab. Please pay particular attention to the graduation requirements that include community service, on the last page of the catalog. If you do not have Internet access and need a paper copy of the 2012 – 2013 Course Catalog please do not hesitate to contact Ms. Nancy Bogardus in the high school office at (978) 546 1234. She will be happy to help you. Also, as of Friday, February 10th, you will be able to review the recommendations that your child’s teachers have made. Those recommendations will be available in iPass, our student information system through your iParent account (if you do not have an iParent account please contact Ms. Nancy Bogardus in the high school office at (978) 546 1234 or at nbogardus@rockport.k12.ma.us). The information is contained in the iParent folder at the parent recommendation tab. After you have reviewed the recommendations, please review them with your child. If you agree with the recommendations you will have an opportunity to indicate the courses that you would like your child to take. You will note that there is a parent acknowledgement column for your approval. Once that is done, you are finished! Please keep in mind that while many courses are offered in the Course Catalog, not all will run. Course enrollments will determine which courses are added to the Master Schedule, so choose wisely! If you have a question, concern, or discrepancy with what has been recommended for your child please feel free to contact your child’s teacher or guidance counselor to discuss the matter further. We hope that the new electronic student request process will help speed the process of creating the Master Schedule, but as with everything thing new, there are sure to be glitches. We appreciate your patience and look forward to working with you to meet the educational needs of your child. We hope to do this through our statement of Core Values and Beliefs, and our Expectations for Student Learning, which is:Rockport Middle/High School, in partnership with families and the community, provides a safe environment that fosters integrity, respect, and success. We promote intellectual curiosity and pride in achievement. We challenge all students to pursue academic excellence, develop interpersonal skills, and value civic responsibility. Students learn in order to fully participate in a diverse and ever-changing world. The Children of Rockport Schools will: Think Critically and Creatively Communicate Effectively Respect self and others Serve society responsiblyBest wishes,Philip ConradPrincipal
