Dear Second Grade Parent/s,

Please note this important message from Mrs. Mungovan:

Also, in these next few weeks grade level teachers will meet to reassign students to the next grade level.  I can assure you that teachers spend a reasonable amount of time on this task.  They look at your child and the next grade level teacher and try to match them up as best as possible.  I have recently heard that parents are requesting a particular teacher for their child - we do not take requests - we use our best professional judgment!  I thank you for your support of this matter.

As we come down to the last 2 weeks of school I want to thank you all for making this such a wonderful and successful school year!  The students have worked so hard and have come so far and I couldn't be prouder of them.  I know they are all going to do wonderful in 3rd grade!

I will give you a brief overview of what we have been working on this past week and will be working on this upcoming week!

Math:
We have been doing A LOT with time.  It is so important to keep reinforcing this skill with your child over the summer!  Remember all the important vocabulary such as: half past, quarter past, quarter of, minutes after, minutes to...

We also started adding and subtraction with re-grouping to the hundreds.  This is the skill we will be practicing a lot this last week of school, along with time, money, and our math facts!

Reading:
For reading we will be finishing our chapter books and playing phonics games to practice our skills. We also read The Three Little Javelinas and The True Story of the Three Little Pigs. We also did Readers Theaters to go along with both.

Read-alouds:
The Lemonade Wars by Jacqueline Davies

Writing:
In writing this week we completed a Father's Day writing, many letters and cards, and letter to our new third grade teachers!

We will continue with Writer's Workshop over the last week.

In Science we started our last chapter on the human body.

A Few Reminders:
1. This months virtue: tolerance
2. Last Day of School in Friday, June 17th
3. We are out wipes!  If anyone could donate some more to our class for the end of year, it would be very much appreciated!

Have a wonderful, safe, and happy summer!  I look forward to seeing you all again in the Fall!

Sincerely,

Ms. Barry
