Classroom Message

Dear Families,

Another chilly week! I predict a bit more indoor recess than I would like!

Friday, kids can buy ice cream for $1.

This week we begin Unit 6 in Reading called "Surprise Me." It is full of non-
fiction, humor and drama! We also have a magical & fun reading project ahead
with the book "Pirates Past Noon," by Mary Pope Osborn (#4 of the Magic Tree
House series). In order to save money, it would be great if you could loan
our class this title if you already have it at home. Make sure your name is
in the book. We'll take good care of these books.

This week we are finishing up money. Please help you child with money
concepts by counting loose change. Next we will be learning time -- the hour,
half hour, elapsed time, and more. Just for fun, try timing how long it takes
to get ready in the morning, eat breakfast, drive to school, etc.

I'm also thinking about a couple projects that would require a student to
bring in one rock about the size of hamburger bun or bagel and a second
project that requires acrylic craft paint -- maybe some leftover paints that
you know you won't use again. I'll send a letter home with more details.

I have been sending home to Home Activity Bags this month: The Bear Bag and
the Louise Braille Biography Bag. Please do what you can with your child for
just two nights, then return so another child can have a turn. Thanks!

Have a terrific week!

Fondly,
Mrs. Murphy
