Mrs. Phyllis Musella

My original goal, when I started Fordham University, was to be a high school
History teacher. One summer to earn money, I worked in a pre-school and loved
the experience so much that I switched majors to Early Childhood
Education.Teaching four and five year olds is both very challenging and
mostly very rewarding. I have taught school in New York City, Memphis,Tn.,
Washington D.C.,Ashland and Framingham Ma. I have been at Saint Bridgets six
years.
My husband and I have four chilren and seven grandchildren. We have lived in
Framingham for 30 years. We love spending time with our family, visiting
Boston, cooking, and reading.
I appreciate being a part of the the Saint Bridget community.

Program Goals

The K1 program is designed to create a safe, caring and nurturing
developmentally appropriate enviorment, which fosters the academic, social
emotional and physical growth and development of each child. It is in the
K1 class that the children begin their formal religious education.

Daily prayer, attending Mass weekly, participating in the school C.A.R.E.S
program and daily reminders that we are all God's children help the children
to come to know about God and our Catholic faith community.

Our class is set up with different centers, each one geared toward
developing specific skills.
For example:

.Block area--shape and size discrimination,spatial relationships,number
skills, balance, organization, cause and effect, classification, cooperative
play skills, problem solving, and creativity.

.Dramatic play--children express themselves, practice life skills, improve
social skills, increase self-esteem, build vocabulary, and solve problems.

.Writing center--improve small-muscle development and eye-hand coordination.

.Circle activities--includes share time, calendar, weather and group lesson
time.

.Science--hands on opportunties for observation, exploration, making
predicitions, and experimentation.

A child's view point about school

"Going to school means I get to try
Blocks and crayons and paints that will dry.
Working with puzzles and looking at books
Exploring the room to find all the nooks
Meeting other children and enjoying the day
Talking to others and hearing what they say.
School days allow me to think and to do,
And find out what I'm able to do."
