About the PTA

If you have any questions about the PTA or how to get involved, please contact
Katie Bonner, Parent Liaison, via e-mail or call 978-486-3612.

What is the PTA?

The PTA is a group of parents who want to be involved in the school community.  Parents contribute whatever time they feel they have to give – whether it’s a 30 minute volunteer shift at an event, or coordinating an entire event. There are plenty of jobs that can be done at home, on the weekends, or with children in tow. The PTA is a team organization, and welcomes any and all who are interested in participating.

The PTA organizes many fun events throughout the school year, including the Scholastic Book Fair in September, Winterfest, and Teacher Appreciation in the spring.  On an everyday basis, the PTA arranges lunch and recess coverage for the teachers, coordinates room parents, helps with photocopying, and other activities that help enrich the curriculum for the children at Shaker Lane.

Next Meeting Date

The next PTA meeting will be on December 1 at 7:30pm in the Shaker Lane Library.  The meeting is open to everyone, so please join us.  Meetings are on the first Tuesday of every month.

This meeting is an opportunity to discuss and be involved in PTA activities, events, and plans.  If any specific funding decisions need to be made, they will be made at the evening meetings only with the input of everyone present (and any input provided ahead of time by those who can’t attend).  Decisions are made by the community at large.  An agenda for each meeting, including any items up for funding, will be published ahead of each meeting.

Yahoo Discussion Group

The Shaker Lane PTA maintains an online discussion group through Yahoo.  This is a good way to stay current with activities and discussions, even if you are unable to attend meetings.  To join, send email to lpta_shakerlane-subscribe@yahoogroups.com.  Please include your name and which grade your child is in so the moderators can approve your membership.

Lotsa Helping Hands

This year, the Shaker Lane PTA is testing a new online system for managing volunteers through the Lotsa Helping Hands website.  This online system allows you to browse the volunteer opportunities, schedule your own volunteer time, and will automatically remind you ahead of time when you’ve signed up to volunteer.  This system replaces submitting a form at the beginning of the year with your volunteer preferences.

To access the online volunteer site, visit: http://www.lotsahelpinghands.com/c/604843/

Volunteer opportunities are already available and ready for sign-ups online.

CORI Reminder

Don’t forget to get CORI’d!  Volunteers must submit new CORI forms each school year, and the CORI checks take a few weeks to turn around.  Please submit your CORI form asap!

If you were CORI’d last year, you may still volunteer at Shaker Lane while waiting for this year’s form to be approved.  New volunteers must wait for approval this year.

If you have any questions about Lotsa Helping Hands, please contact one of the moderators: Monique Beganski (978-486-3021) or Katie Bonner (978-486-3612); or send us an email.
