ABILITY is what you are capable of doing.
MOTIVATION determines what you do.
ATTITUDE determines how well you do it.

FYI: If your child goes to historyalive.com they are able to take a "mock" test on the social studies chapters. They are usually very close to the actual test. This is very good practice. Students who do this and bring a copy of their final score will get extra points on the test. It must be brought in the day of the test to get the extra points!

To Get to History Alive

  1. go to: http://millburyschools.sharepointsite.com/shaw/shawlinks/pages/Social%20Studies.aspx
  2. On the left of the page click on “Grade 5 History Alive Tutorial”…that will take you to the History Alive! tutorial portal.
  3. Fill in your name and click
  4. Choose the correct Chapter to be tested and click on it, then do test
  5. Print out your score sheet and bring it to Mrs. Magnant ON THE DAY OF THE TEST to get extra points

 HOMEWORK:
1. Every child should be doing some reading nightly. There is AR for the first term. Students should have 25 points by the end of the term... June 6th
We have switched over to a new AR system which gives the kids availability to every AR test made. Go to ARbookfind.com to see if the book your child is reading is among over 140,000 books that they have access to.

2. The students have been working on the three parts of their slave essay in class as we finish each section of chapter eight. This is counting AS THE TEST for chapter eight. Due next Monday are the following things:
THREE graphic organizers (one for each section we did)
The handwritten rough draft for each section
The editing check-sheet (CHECK SPELLING!!!!!)
The final copy, which can be typed or handwritten

All parts should be stapled in the top left hand corner, in the same order listed above, with the final copy on top.
By the time this is due, the students would have had approximately TEN class periods to do this work. Some children were more productive than others and stayed on task. Others will have lots to do in the next week. NO PAPERS will be accepted late. If your child is absent on Monday, please send in the finished paper and required parts with a neighbor or sibling.

.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
1. Missing HOMEwork notices with be done via email only. The email will need to be printed and have your signature on it, as well as your child's paragraph explaining why they did not have their homework and what strategy they will use not to miss work again. It is essential that you check your email daily to stay on top of this. If you have not provided me with an email address to inform you of your child's work, please do so ASAP. The address needs to be one you check daily. Thanks so much.

PLEASE HAVE YOUR CHILD BRING IN A WATER BOTTLE...All children
should have water bottles for class to limit class disruptions. Please make sure the student has WATER and not a sports drink.

Thanks!
