Dear Parents,

A big thank you to those of you who have donated items for our class store. We are looking forward
to the store's "grand opening" this afternoon! Also thanks to many of you who have sent in
antibacterial wipes and hand sanitizer. I really appreciate it!
In math this week we are continuing unit 4: products and factors. I have noticed that many students
do not know their multiplication facts. This will make it difficult to understand the concepts in this
unit. Going over flash cards at home a few minutes per night is extremely helpful. So are the many
online practice sites such as multiplication.com. There will be a timed, graded math facts test on
Tuesday. November 24th. I will continue to have timed, graded tests on multiplication facts for the
next month or so on Tuesdays.
In science this week we are beginning a new unit: Simple Machines! Yesterday we played tug-of-war
outside to learn about forces. I look forward to many hands-on activities in this unit.
In reading, we are working on outlining techniques for studying nonfiction articles. Next week we will
be doing something especially fun: reader's theater! We will be performing a Thanksgiving skit with
the theme of cooperation.
In writing, the students are writing book reviews. When they are done, they will combine them with a
sketch to create a "book jacket." We recently had a test on subject and predicate, and are beginning a
study of nouns.
I am assigning conferences on a first-come, first served basis. Please return your sign up sheet as
soon as possible if you haven't already done so. This is the last letter until after Thanksgiving. I wish
you all a wonderful holiday!
