About The Teacher

Mrs. Foster has been teaching at Spofford Pond since the fall of 2007. Prior
to this, she was teaching grades 2 and 3 in a small community school in
mid-Vermont. Over the last 18+ years of experience working with children, she
has also worked in Newburyport, MA as a fourth grade teacher. Prior to this,
she held teaching positions in Maine, New Hampshire, Wyoming, and Idaho. This
includes her career start in early intervention and special needs. Earning a
master's degree in education from Gordon College and an undergraduate degree
in special education and elementary education at the University of Maine, Mrs.
Foster has also been a children's librarian and has done advanced studies in
occupational therapy at the University of New Hampshire.

On a more personal note, Mrs. Foster is the mother of two girls, Hillary and
Megan, who are in their early to mid- twenties. Each is currently pursuing
her own career. Megan completed her bachelor's degree in nutrition and art
last May while Hillary has degrees in environmental studies and animal science
and is studying at Mass. General's School of Health Professions to become a
nurse practioner.

With her family including husband Scot,a geologist/environmental consultant,
Mrs. Foster enjoys spending time outdoors kayaking, hiking, skiing, and
playing tennis, as well as exploring "wild" places such as Alaska and the
Northwest in recent summers. Animals also play a huge part in the Foster
household, which is currently home to their lovable golden retriever, Zoe, as
well as two spice finches and fish. Horses have also been a big part of our
family life over the years.

Mission For The Class

My mission is to instill a lifelong love of learning in each of my students. I
believe that my classroom should be a nurturing, safe environment where
students feel free to take learning risks. We are a community of learners who
support and depend on each other. Parents and support staff are valued
members of our learning community and communication is the key to our success.
