Help Your Child To Become A Reader and Learner
Reading is a skill that improves with practice. Encourage your child
to spend time reading each day. While your child may have the resources of
the school library during the year, try to visit the town library
occasionally, as every library has a slightly different collection. Join the
summer reading program during school vacation.
Read aloud to your child even after they can read to themselves. If you
find a book uninteresting, don't be afraid to abandon it and select
another. After giving a book a chance, you should be enthusiastic about
whatever it is you are reading.
Give your child a wide range of experiences, then read related fiction and
non-fiction books about them to broaden the experience. Get a world map and
hang it in the kitchen and talk about the places that come up in
conversations, family travels, or the news.
