Mrs. Andrea Monty (Director of the Instrumental Music Program)
Mrs. Monty loves music! She grew up in New York City and began piano lessons
when she was 4 years old. A few years later, she began studying violin and
guitar. In junior high and high school, she performed in several youth
orchestras, played guitar in a rock band and began teaching piano. Mrs. Monty
received her college degree in Music from New York University where she
studied piano, clarinet and other woodwinds and sang in the university chorus.
Moving to Illinois, she completed her Masters degree in Music Theory at
Northwestern University and taught music at an elementary school
in Michigan.
Mrs. Monty and her husband have lived in Boxford since 1986. She began working
as the piano accompanist for the Spofford chorus in 1994 and in 1995, became
the keyboard coach for the 6th grade Jazz Band and an assistant to Mrs. Liz
Shepard. In 2004, she was hired as the director of the 5th grade Jazz Ensemble
and in the fall of 2005, became the Director of the Beginning Band. In
September of 2006, Mrs. Monty was appointed Director of the Instrumental Music
program at Spofford Pond.
Outside of school, Mrs. Monty teaches piano and is an accompanist for solo
performers at recitals. Before becoming the Instrumental Music Director at
Spofford Pond, she was employed as the organist at a church in West Boxford
and occasionally still plays pipe organs and the harpsichord. Besides
performing music, Mrs. Monty's hobbies include attending concerts and travel.
