recordings and video of our music. Please listen to them to become more
familiar with the tunes.
The 6th Grade Jazz Band is made up of saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone
horn, percussion and keyboard players currently enrolled in the Band. Members
are personally invited by the director to join this group and there are no try
outs. Invitations to this tightly knit group are extended on the basis of
playing ability, consistent home practice and attendance at lessons,
performance, personal behavior and punctuality in Concert Band, and commitment
to working as a team member at all concerts, lessons and rehearsals.
Our first performance will be on December 6th at the Spofford Band Winter Concert.
REHEARSALS:
In addition to attending all 6th Grade Concert Band rehearsals, Jazz Band
members rehearse every WEDNESDAY morning at 7:30 A.M. sharp. Invited members
must arrive for rehearsals by 7:23am in order to be seated with instruments
and music, ready to PLAY at 7:30am. Early arrivals are welcome to help with
set-up. Remember to have extra reeds, valve oil and a pencil with you. All
music and instrument cases should clearly display your name and homeroom.
Because of our busy performing schedule, attendance at all lessons and
rehearsals is mandatory. Any student who is present at school but absent
from rehearsal, a lesson or a performance must provide Mrs. Monty with a
note of explanation.
Jazz Band members should visit the "Listening Examples" page on this website
often to hear and play along with versions of our music and become more
familiar with them prior to rehearsals.

The 2010-11 6th Grade Jazz Band was honored to perform for the 3rd Grade and
their guest, WBZ-TV meteorolgist, Todd Gutner, on Tuesday, February 15th.
Their performance of "BLUE SKIES," dedicated to Mr. Gutner, was featured on
the WBZ-TV news at 5:50 pm that night. THANKS, Mr.Gutner for making our day!
