Announcements small medium large WELCOME TO THE SPOFFORD POND BAND WEB PAGES! BAND NEWS: Congratulations to Brendan Wages,the 5th grade winner of the UMass Lowell NAfME Youth Composition Contest. Brendan will perform his original piece, "Newest Rag Tune" at a concert at UMass Lowell on May 19th. Congratulations to Ryan Mc Cann & Bria Dox and (and alternates Dan Buckley, Jack Miller & Nick Limone) who have been chosen to represent Spofford Pond by playing Taps at the assembly and Memorial Day weekend events. MARCHING BAND rehearsals for all 5th & 6th Grade Band members continue! Check the new Rehearsal calendar webpage for the exact days of morning rehearsals. IMPORTANT BAND EVENTS COMING UP: On MONDAY, MAY 28th, the 5th & 6th Grade Marching Band will perform in West Boxford at the Memorial Day Parade. All Band members must be attired in khaki PANTS and Band shirt. On TUESDAY, JUNE 5th, the 6th Grade Concert and Jazz Bands will travel to the Proctor School perform in the first ever Boxford-Topsfield Band exchange. The 6th Grade Bands will host the annual Senior Citizens' Concert & Luncheon on WEDNESDAY, JUNE 6th at 9:30AM at Spofford Pond School. Interested seniors should call the Boxford Council on Aging by May 30th to make a reservation for this free event. The Beginning Band Spring Concert will be held on WEDNESDAY, JUNE 6th at 6:30PM in the Spofford cafeteria. Dress is formal. RECITAL NIGHT will be held on THURSDAY, JUNE 7th at 6:15PM. You are invited to be part of the audience for the 6th Grade Jazz Band and musicians from the 4th, 5th and 6th grades. Students interested in taking part in this small ensemble event should already be preparing the music assigned for their ensemble. An onstage rehearsal will be held that week. On SUNDAY, JUNE 10th, the 5th & 6th Grade Bands will perform a 20 minute musical set and the STAR SPANGLED BANNER on the field at McCoy Stadium in Rhode Island for a AAA Pawtucket Red Sox game. Khaki PANTS & Band shirts must be worn. The Spofford "All School Concert Assembly" will be held at 9:15AM on TUESDAY, JUNE 12th at 9:15AM. This concert will feature the 5th and 6th Grade Concert and Jazz Bands. The 6th Grade JAZZ BAND will perform a full concert at the Cole School on WEDNESDAY, JUNE 13th. Morning rehearsal will be held AT COLE SCHOOL prior to the concert. All these dates are also listed on the CALENDAR page. PAST EVENTS: The Spofford Pond 5th & 6th Grade Bands' formal SPRING CONCERT on April 25th, featuring Concert and Jazz Bands from both grades, was a rousing success. Thank you for your participation in our Toiletry Drive for the Community Giving Tree and the Band raffle fundraiser. On Wednesday, March 8th, the 6th Grade Concert & Jazz Bands performed a marvelous full hour of music at the Massachusetts State House in Boston. It was an experience of a lifetime for our members and their families! While there, the group also participated in interactive tours of the House of Representatives and Senate chambers led by Boxford's state representatives, Representative Brad Hill, Senator Bruce Tarr and Mr. A.J. Paglia, aide to Sen. Tarr. A rarely granted walk on the outside balcony, normally reserved for dignitaries, completed the morning. We were happy to see many parents and extended family members in our audience and a group of Asian student tourists who watched from afar seemed taken aback by the young age of our performers. Before returning to Spofford Pond, the Band capped off their exciting day with lunch at Fuddruckers. We'd like to thank our chaperones, Mrs. Magee and Mrs. Langill; Senator Tarr, Representative Hill, Mr. Paglia and the the State House staff Mr. & Mrs. Mallory for trucking in our large equipment, and our numerous parent volunteers and audience members who made this day possible. Thanks to the wonderful performance and behavior of the band members, we have already been invited to return next year for our 7th consecutive concert at the State House. Students who participate in our before-school band rehearsals begin their day alert and energetic. Numerous studies have illuminated immense benefits to many facets of learning in children who participate in school musical performance groups. Attendance at all lessons, Band rehearsals (particularly on performance days,) and Band concerts is expected. Make sure that your child arrives for rehearsal by 7:23am. Parents of students who are absent from a rehearsal but are in attendance at school must notify Mrs. Monty through email or a written note explaining the absence. You can keep up to date on band activities and receive reminders of band and instrumental events by email.
