What happens if a student forgets to do or forgets to bring in their homework?

Because homework is given to review concepts taught at school or sometimes
assignments are given so that students will be prepared for an upcoming
discussion, it is very important that homework be completed by the due date
given. If homework is not completed by the due date, students will be given
the time during recess to work on the assignment.

On average, students should be spending about one hour on homework each night,
Monday through Thursday. In addition to nightly homework, they should also be
reading for 1/2 hour and recording it in their reading logs.

How much help should my child need to complete their homework?

Because the homework is primarily a review of what was covered in class,
homework should be able to be completed fairly independently. At times,
students will be asked to read and discuss something with a parent.

How can I help my child if they have organizational difficulties?

Checklists are great organizational tools. If your child needs help packing
all the necessary materials to be ready for school, create a checklist and
teach them how to use it. Model the entire process and practice it together
for a period of time. The idea is to encourage responsibility and
independence. Packing their belongings at night is a much better idea than
trying to rush in the morning.

Can work be sent home to complete during a family vacation?

School policy states that if a child is absent due to a vacation taken during
school time, work will be completed upon the student's return. This is due to
the fact that teachers give homework based on what has been taught that day.
Please encourage your child to read and keep a journal while on vacation.
