NOVEMBER NEWS
Thank you to our chaperones, Mrs. Chiasson, Mrs. Harris, Mr. Martin and Mrs.
Rassias for coming with us to Plimoth Plantation. We had a gorgeous day to
be among the Pilgrims and Wampanoags. It was amazing for the children to
physically see and explore how they lived.
RELIGION~ We have begun Chapter Three: We Are God's Holy People. We will
focus on Saints Francis and Clare. This month we will be visited by the
sixth grade "saints". They will be dressed up to represent a saint and give
us clues as to who they are. How exciting!
MATH~ Our focus will now turn to multiplication. The student's will begin
with using repeated addition to see how it relates to it. We will continue
to work on basic addition/subtraction facts focuing again on problem solving
(word problems), rounding, and adddition/subtraction with regrouping.
READING~ We have completed the five stories of Unit One: Dollars and Sense.
The class will be taking the Unit One Benchmark test at the beginning of the
month. Our second unit is titled "Smart Solutions". Again there are five
stories. Some of the skills for this unit are: making predictions, drawing
conclusions and realism/fantasy.
WRITING~ The children are using FCA'S in the writing process.
This stands for Focus Correction Area's. Each writing paper will focus on
three area's only (ie. Capitalization/Punctuation = 25 points, a 4-
6 sentence paragraph = 25 points, the correct use of five spelling words
underlined = 50 points, for a total of 100 points). The class is also
enjoying peer editing.
SPELLING~ We continue to use the Rebecca Sitton program for everyday writing,
along with adding five words from the reading story that we are on for an
added challenge. Every Friday the children have a dictated test.
ENGLISH~ We will cover the four types of sentences, along with subject and
predicate.
SCIENCE~ We are working on Chapter Two: Types of Plants focuses on what they
need to live, the different types of plants and how they make their own
food. Each child has chosen or been assigned a state flower. It will be our
first IIM project of the year. Mrs. Trovato and Mrs. Gregg will also be
working with the children on this project/report.
