DECEMBER NEWS
RELIGION~ This month we will be attending Reconciliation on December 3rd. How
nice to start the Advent season with a clean slate! In chapter four we are
focusing on how Mary chose to say yes to God. We will be making our Advent
wreath and focusing on the upcoming birth of Jesus.
MATH~ The student's will continue with the times tables up to six until
Christmas vacation, after which we will move along right up to the 12's!
Weekly tests will continue to be timed as multiplication is strictly
memorization. Multi- step word problems revolving around multiplication are
also a focus.
READING~ We are on our second unit titled "Smart Solutions". Again there are
five stories. Some of the skills for this unit are: making predictions,
drawing conclusions and realism/fantasy.
WRITING~ The children are using FCA'S in the writing process.
This stands for Focus Correction Area's. Each writing paper will focus on
three area's only (ie. Capitalization/Punctuation = 25 points, a 4-
6 sentence paragraph = 25 points, the correct use of five spelling words
underlined = 50 points, for a total of 100 points). The class is also
enjoying peer editing.
SPELLING~ We continue to use the Rebecca Sitton program for everyday writing,
along with adding five words from the reading story that we are on for an
added challenge. Every Friday the children have a dictated test.
ENGLISH~ We will cover the four types of sentences, along with subject and
predicate.
SCIENCE~ Each child has chosen or been assigned a state flower. It will be
our first IIM project of the year. Mrs. Trovato and Mrs. Gregg will also be
working with the children on this project/report.
